About This Place

Nestled in the heart of New York City's vibrant Little Italy at 189 Hester Street, Puglia invites diners to embark on an authentic journey through Italian cuisine that is both comforting and exciting. Specializing in time-honored recipes with a contemporary flair, Puglia is an Italian restaurant where flavors burst vividly and every bite tells a story of tradition and passion.

The menu at Puglia is a celebration of Italy’s rich culinary heritage, featuring standout dishes like their famously indulgent Lobster Ravioli Alla Vodka, which customers rave about for its perfectly tender pasta filled with luscious lobster meat, soaked in a luxuriously creamy vodka sauce. The Veal Parmigiana, coated in golden breadcrumbs and bathed in fresh tomato sauce beneath a pillow of gooey mozzarella, offers the kind of hearty satisfaction that feels like a warm embrace. For those seeking lighter yet no less flavorful options, the Gluten Free Penne Alla Vodka with Shrimp expertly combines a silky sauce with succulent seafood, ensuring inclusivity without compromise.

Beyond pasta, Puglia’s pizza selection is equally enticing. Whether it’s the simple yet vibrant Margherita with fresh tomato and fragrant basil or the carnivore’s delight The Heart Stopper loaded with an assortment of Italian cured meats and fresh mozzarella, each pizza showcases meticulous ingredient quality and skillful preparation. A must-try is their signature Rigatoni Vodka Pizza, a creative twist that perfectly balances creamy sauce with the satisfying chew of rigatoni pasta — a culinary harmony that’s as delightful to the eye as it is to the palate.

The dining atmosphere at Puglia is lively and welcoming, often enlivened by live music that adds a festive backdrop to every meal. This vibrant setting perfectly complements the restaurant’s family-style service, making it an ideal gathering spot for celebrations, intimate dinners, or simply an immersive New York Italian experience. Guests frequently mention how the owner, Joey, and his team make you feel less like a customer and more like part of a cherished extended family—a rare and heartwarming touch in today’s busy city.

Accompany your meal with thoughtfully curated house wines or indulge in their rich selection of Italian liqueurs like Amaretto and Grappa, rounding out an authentic and satisfying dining encounter. And no meal here is complete without indulging in classic Italian desserts such as the creamy Tiramisu or a crisp, sweet Cannoli, each bite offering the perfect balance of sweetness and tradition.

Longtime visitors and first-timers alike constantly praise Puglia for its fresh, vibrant marinara sauce, “so good you want to drink it,” and their House Calamari, which is “spicy, sweet and crispy,” creating a true feast for the senses. The experience is further enriched by an atmosphere filled with joy, heartfelt service, and the unmistakable camaraderie that comes from dining surrounded by the sounds of laughter and live performances.

For anyone craving authentic Italian fare with a side of spirited New York charm, Puglia stands as a culinary jewel in Little Italy — a place where every dish bursts with flavor, every visit feels like coming home, and the memories made are as rich as the food served. Whether you are seeking a romantic dinner, a festive group gathering, or simply an unforgettable meal in the city, Puglia promises to deliver a feast that delights the palate and warms the heart.

Amazing!!!! Such good food. The absolute best lobster ravioli I've ever had. The garlic bread was wonderful. Great mozzarella sticks. The marinara sauce is so fresh, I wanted to drink it! Seriously a must if in NYC.

The lively ambience with live music made for a fun and festive evening. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the great experience. We opted for the prix fixe menu, served family style, paired with wine, and every dish was excellent. The food was flavorful, well-prepared, and perfect for sharing. As a bonus, if you pay cash, you get a 5% discount, which was a nice perk. Highly recommend for a memorable night out with friends or family!

Absolutely the best place in little Italy. Authentic food and experience. This place is a must try for family style or any occasion. The atmosphere alone is decadent and robust. The owner Joe is always around and takes care of you. They make you feel like family.

**GET THE HOUSE CALAMARI!! Been going to Puglia since I was probably 10 years old and was able to celebrate my engagement here! It's a lively place with decent prices and I am never disappointed by the food quality here. I always get a House Calamari which is spicy, sweet and crispy. We also get two bottles of the red and white House wine and mix them together. We make Puglia our family tradition and go at least 1-2x a year since we always have a great experience.

Have been coming to Pugia's since 1987. Always a great time. Jorge & Debbie sing, the food is good, and Joey (the owner) always takes great care of us. Joey treats us like family. We lived in NYC for 18 years and Puglia's was our favorite place to eat. Don't forget to "Shake Your Napkin"!!!!! Hip Hip Jorge!!

Absolutely a must go! The food was fantastic and the staff was amazing! The ambiance is so much fun! They start dancing and singing live around 7pm every night. Don’t waste time reading too many reviews, just go and have the experience, it’s worth it.
